I am reaching out to share the exciting news of the Rock Hill Symphony’s Season VI opening concert on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. with the Conductor’s Pre-Concert Talk commencing at 6:30 p.m.
Season VI will be filled with magical new beginnings as we present our new Music Director and Conductor, Maestro Christopher James Lees in his inaugural concert. Mr. Lees joins us as he continues his tenure as Resident Conductor for the Charlotte Symphony.
As a result of valuable feedback from our patrons we worked to find a venue closer to the hub of town. We are pleased to share that our concerts for Season VI will be held at Sullivan Middle School Auditorium, 1825 Eden Terrace, Rock Hill, SC 29730.
Th evening’s exciting program will feature Coleridge-Taylor’s dramatic Overture to Hiawatha & Beethoven’s titanic and earth-shattering Symphony No. 5. Charlotte Symphony Principal Viola, Benjamin Geller, will perform a beautifully accessible solo in Weeping, an Angel, Immense by Winthrop University Composition Professor, Leonard Mark Lewis. During the Pre-Concert Talk our Maestro Lees, Benjamin Geller and Professor Lewis will collectively share highlights for the evening.
Season VI Opening Night is guaranteed to be an evening of outstanding music!

Christopher James Lees begins a new era in this exciting inaugural performance as Music Director of the RHSO! Don’t miss this dynamic & colorful evening of fantastical musical stories – from Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite filled with fairy tale characters to Stravinsky’s epic, lush, & glorious Suite from the Firebird. Charleston native & Grammy Award Winner, Dr. Robert Young, breaks down traditional symphony orchestra walls while performing a virtuosic & flashy saxophone concerto to the stage with French Composer Guillaume Connesson’s A Kind of Trane.
